3G mobile networks pose new challenges to test laboratories for both
manufacturers and operators. New high-speed physical interfaces and transport
protocols have been introduced, and the mandatory management of the user
plane requires much higher processing capacity than ever before.
PRISMA Engineering's testing solutions, based on
the Line Server Unit (LSU) family, implement
all the interfaces needed to build test environments for UMTS network
elements.
High connectivity and processing power make these solutions suitable
not only for functional tests but also for load & stress tests,
supporting many real-world testing scenarios. With its wire-speed
user plane support, a single test system can be used throughout
the whole product test cycle.
Core Network Simulators
The LSU is used to emulate a complete
UMTS core network, allowing test of Node-B and RNC in a controlled
environment. Both circuit-switched and packet-switched domains are
supported, with simulation of faulty behaviour and abnormal conditions.
The simulation includes both user plane and control plane.
Circuit-switched voice and video calls are supported, along with
simulation of packet-switched traffic resembling real user activity
like web browsing or FTP data transfer.
Iub Simulation
Use of the LSU, takes the RNC to its
operating limits, verifying its performance and reliability under
heavy load. Both user and control plane are included in the simulation.
Realistic scenarios are simulated, with thousands of users making
voice/data calls or using real packet-switched data applications
(file transfer, web browsing, e-mail etc).
