The application adopted by PRISMA Engineering for protocol
analysis and network monitoring is based on a popular open source software,
Ethereal, improved to decode a lot of proprietary
protocols, under license from telecom manufacturers, and to collect statistical
data for QoS verification and failure detection.
Ethereal look and feel is friendly
and immediate to understand.
The main window is divided in 3 sections:
message list with headers and colors for each protocol layer
decoded message with a tree view for content inspection
binary message with highlighted bytes corresponding to the examined
part on the tree view
The LSUv3 architecture
allows to gather data from multiple interfaces with a time-stamping
mechanism that quarantees the slightest gaps. So, traffic flows
coming from different interfaces can be analysed together and offer
a complete and coherent view. An innovative labeling mechanism provides
for a flexible and intuitive call tracing facility.
Native management of multiple users, common to all Line
Server Unit (LSU) systems, makes an LSU the ideal monitoring
server, conveniently accessible by the users from their workstation.
For the visualisation and analysis of monitored
data on the clients, PRISMA Engineering has decided to support the
Ethereal open.source project. The LSUv3 systems offer to Ethereal
real-time access to all their interfaces.
Thanks to this, users can benefit at no charge of a powerful and
comprehensive Protocol Analyzer, available for both Windows and
Linux.
Please refer to the Etheral website
for further details on the tool and for an updated list of the many protocols
already supported.
